Our last day in Melbourne hasn’t been all that exciting as one might expect. We all corralled down in the lobby about 9 o’clock this morning to go do “touristy” things as Anoop called it. We headed into town on the trams, which haven’t been my favorite thing. The touristy things that we were doing ended up being just that. We walked around the central train station talking about the structure of the roof and how it was designed as was supported. This took all of fifteen minutes or so. I believe the ordeal of making it to the train station took quite a bit longer. Anywho, afterwards we headed over to the Melbourne Cricket Grounds (MCG) to get a guided tour of the stadium by a fella named Paul? Can't really remeber his name. This wildly eccentric old man was quite the guide as he would get excited about the most obsolete things which made the tour even that much more entertaining. We were led down to the cricket field where we learned that the grass used in the stadium actually came from Florida, which I was mildly surprised about. I still have been trying to figure out the rules of cricket and how it works, however I can’t get my head around it. I’ll stick to baseball. It was also interesting to see some of the history that was prevalent throughout this stadium since it was built 150 some odd years ago and hosted the 1956 Olympics. Finally, Paul ended the tour on a cheery note about some “ole blokes” that he used to know and a few jokes that we laughed at only because Paul thought he was funny. Meghan, Patrick, Emily and I then headed to Federation Square to grab some lunch and watch part of an on going tennis match that was being played on the jumbo screen before returning to our apartments to get a bit of work done. We are wrapping up the night tonight by going to a “cultural event”, I believe a play, and then back to pack and ready ourselves for yet another uprooting out of one city and off to another country. I’m more excited about New Zealand than anything that we have done on this trip so far, so I can’t wait to spend a week there taking in all that I can in such a short time. See y’all in yet another city! Cheers.
